Introducing Concordium’s DevNet: Engineering the Next Evolution of PayFi

Concordium
April 28, 2025

Attention dev community! This is your chance to join the PayFi frontier. Concordium’s DevNet opens a new arena for stablecoin project teams to code protocol-level stablecoins and co-build smart money features designed for real-world applications.

Concordium is proud to announce the launch of DevNet, an exclusive environment designed to push the boundaries of blockchain-powered payments. Rolled out this April, DevNet offers developers and stablecoin innovators a canary network where they can experiment, develop, and perfect next-generation PayFi features, as laid out in the Concordium’s first Town Hall earlier this year.

A Payment Innovation Playground

DevNet is not just another testnet. It’s an exclusive space for developer teams to help shape and test groundbreaking features before they hit the Concordium mainnet. Whether you’re passionate about payment systems, stablecoins, or blockchain innovation, DevNet is the place to create the future of smart programmable money.

We’re particularly excited to invite developers with backgrounds in Stripe, Shopify, Worldpay, Adyen, and similar platforms. The aim of DevNet is to bring together like-minded experts with experience in building or integrating payment flows to achieve the next wave of blockchain-based financial technology.

Build Advance Payment Features

On DevNet, developers will have the unique chance to explore a suite of advanced payment functionalities, including:

  • Protocol-Level Tokens: Early access to the upcoming Protocol-Level Tokens (PLTs) — native stablecoins and payment tokens built directly into the blockchain’s core layer for maximum security, compliance and performance without relying on smart contracts.

  • On-chain KYC-integrated payments: Create seamless and compliant transactions, integrating identity verification directly into payment flows.

  • Escrow logic: Develop and test payment holds, conditional releases, and dispute resolution mechanisms.

  • Programmable transfers: Craft custom transfer rules that automatically enforce payment conditions without intermediaries.

  • Real-world API integrations: Work with Concordium APIs to embed stablecoin payments into existing e-commerce platforms and financial apps.

  • Advanced payment features: Test real-world concepts like geofenced payments, where transactions are only valid within specific geographic regions, and age-verified purchases, enabling age-restricted sales in compliance with regulations.

  • Smart payment locks: Build features that allow payments to be timed, gated, or conditional based on external factors.

The First Mover Advantage

The first group of participants for DevNet has already been selected and includes an exciting mix of stablecoin issuers, software houses, and ecosystem partners from around the world. These early movers will play a critical role in shaping DevNet’s development, ensuring the platform is fine-tuned to meet the needs of real-world payment systems and enterprise-grade applications. Their feedback and experiments will directly inform the evolution of Concordium’s PayFi infrastructure.

Rapid Development and Iteration

DevNet is structured around a two-week release cycle, ensuring constant updates, new features, and improvements based on developer feedback. This fast-paced environment offers a rare opportunity to work closely with the Concordium team and influence the evolution of blockchain payments at the foundational level.

Participants on DevNet will be among the first to access the Protocol-Level Tokens and tooling updates. Beyond PLTs, the first feature updates, including support for Verify & Pay and Geofencing, are targeted for DevNet release by June. Verify & Pay tools will enable developers to build checkout flows that simultaneously performs identity verification and stablecoin transfer in one seamless user journey. The geofencing tooling suite will allow token issuers to limit the distribution to the appropriate holders according to their compliance profiles.

At the Forefront of PayFi

Concordium’s DevNet is more than just a test environment — it’s a collaborative effort to build the infrastructure for mainstream stablecoin payments and decentralized finance solutions. Participation means being at  the forefront of blockchain’s next big leap, helping to define how millions of people will transact in the future.

Whether you’re a veteran payments engineer or an adventurous blockchain developer looking to revolutionize stablecoins, we invite you to apply here.
