Concordium successfully completes first load test

November 9, 2024

Today, Concordium successfully conducted a series of distributed production speed tests, simulating peak load activity. The results were positive, with the network successfully processing 50 transactions per second (TPS), double the peak activity seen in April this year.

The results were clear: Concordium maintained fast transaction speeds and strong network performance, even under intense pressure.

While the network’s architecture is designed to handle much higher TPS, Concordium is taking a cautious, step-by-step approach to testing. By starting with 10 TPS and gradually increasing the load to 50, the team systematically validated the chain’s performance at each level, ensuring that it maintains stability, security, and efficiency as the transaction volume increases. This measured approach lays the groundwork for future scalability while providing solid evidence of the platform’s real-world capabilities.

The tests were designed to mimic the traffic seen during large-scale dApps or enterprise-level transactions. This successful test shows that Concordium is more than able to support businesses and developers as they scale their operations in the blockchain space. It also further reinforces Concordium’s position as a reliable Layer-1 blockchain, built for real-world use cases and primed for mass adoption.

Ensuring independence and reliability

To ensure the independence and reliability of the results, Myrmidon Staking, a reputable validator, assisted with the test. Myrmidon played a critical role in the testing process by closely observing the network’s performance throughout the simulation. Their team monitored the network for any irregularities or abnormal behavior, providing real-time feedback that would have helped identify and address any potential issues swiftly.

Myrmidon’s involvement added an extra layer of assurance to the test, reinforcing the credibility of the results and showcasing Concordium’s commitment to transparency. Their detailed reporting and independent oversight were instrumental in verifying the robustness and stability of the system under load. This collaboration demonstrates that Concordium’s infrastructure is not only resilient but also prepared to operate seamlessly under high-demand scenarios, instilling confidence in the platform’s capacity to support critical business operations.

Real vs. hypothetical TPS: Concordium’s commitment to real-world testing

A common practice in the blockchain industry is to share theoretical TPS numbers that reflect ideal conditions rather than real-world scenarios. Such tests do not account for the complexities and unpredictable demands of real use cases and are grossly misleading

At Concordium, we take a science-backed approach. As part of our commitment to transparency and reliability, we don’t just share theoretical numbers or make abstract promises. Instead, we actually put our network to the test to prove its robustness under real conditions. The results reflect what actual users and use cases would experience on the mainchain, providing a more accurate picture of the platform’s capabilities.

The results from these tests were clear: even under intense pressure, Concordium maintained fast transaction speeds and strong network performance. This demonstration of real-world performance shows that Concordium is not just capable of supporting businesses and developers but is also prepared to scale as they expand their operations in the blockchain space.

Future plans: Testing the limits

Following the successful completion of this initial load test, Concordium is already planning the next phase of its performance evaluation. In the near future, the team will conduct further tests targeting even higher TPS to explore the actual limits of the chain. These upcoming tests will be crucial in determining the network’s scalability potential and will help to fine-tune the platform’s capabilities for handling increasingly demanding workloads.

As the testing progresses, Concordium aims to push its performance boundaries while maintaining the same rigorous standards for transparency and real-world validation. These efforts are part of a continuous commitment to ensuring that the platform not only meets the current needs of businesses and developers but also stays ahead of future demands in the rapidly evolving blockchain landscape.

By methodically increasing the transaction load and testing at each level, Concordium seeks to provide concrete evidence of its capacity to scale without risking downtime during the test. This approach will further establish the platform as a reliable, industrial-grade blockchain solution capable of supporting a wide range of use cases — from dApps and enterprise solutions to critical business operations.

Stay tuned as Concordium continues to push forward, setting new benchmarks for blockchain performance and setting the stage for the next generation of decentralized technology.
